All day crop

23rd July, 2008 at 6:43 pm (Uncategorized)

The next Indigo Mill crop is a week on Saturday (2nd August) from 10am – 4pm at Mickleover Community Centre, Uttoxeter Road, Derby (just off the A38)

It costs £5 including drinks and cakes (and possibly another of the yummity yum cinammon cakes I made last time!)

Contact us to book your place, or turn up on the day – we always welcome newcomers, and can always squeeze a new person in… If you do plan to come as a newbie, please do let us know in advance so that we can prepare a little goodie bag for you to start off with.

Hope to see the ‘regulars’ and some new faces there.

Tip: Don’t let patterned paper scare you!

20th July, 2008 at 8:29 pm (Uncategorized)

I’m sure many of us are the same. You see a beautiful sheet of patterned paper that you absolutely love, you buy it, get it home and then look at it again thinking ummm…. what on earth do I do with this!?

More often than not, my hardest part is that I don’t want to cover up the patterns, rather than not really liking them anymore, so here’s an idea to try. This is one of the Dutch Girl papers in the Straight Laced kit. I had no idea what to do with it, and so made it into this maze book for my Friday night scrapbook class. And you know what, it was the best paper to use, each page had beautiful patterns on them, in much smaller chunks. Some of them even turned out symmetrical on each page.

Try it and see how you get on. If you want to see the finished book, check out http://www.scrapbookingforthesoul.blogspot.com

Inspiration – Fun in the summer sun kit

20th July, 2008 at 7:19 pm (Uncategorized)

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a *huge* believer in the world of Doodlebug. If they made emulsion pain to use in your house, my husband would live in a very colourful world. So this was a challenge for me. A beautiful flower embossed WHITE paper by Doodlebug. Not the usual colours by doodlebug that I would use.

The embossing is so small and delicate, I had to use a way to bring it up to life. To do this, I drizzled a thin square of orange Anita’s acrylic pain around the edge and wiped it over with a wipe (can’t find the paintbrushes… my fault for letting the kids use them to ‘tickle’ with!) and you can see from the close up piccie how well this makes the embossed flowers stand out. You can get the same effect with chalks.

Wanted to stick with as few colours as I could, white, orange and black / dark brown to really make the emphasis the photos and the poem I wrote. I cut the letters from black card and the orange flocked paper (using Cosmo Cricket blackboard pieces as a template) and stuck them along a piece of Doodlebug stitched grosgrain, mounted this and the pictures onto a sheet of dark bazzill bling and then onto the page. I handwrote the poem using galaxy markers and put a small black heart in the top right corner. Add some hand drawn thin lines along the orange paint to make the frame and Voila!

Definitely Doodlebug with the bright orange, but definitely simpler than any usual doodlebug layout.

Can’t wait to show my mum…. bet you she cries!! LOL

Purchasing information

17th July, 2008 at 9:20 pm (Uncategorized)

Oh… these ‘techies’ hey? There is no more threatening to take away computer games, music, gadgets etc that I can do… I just have to wait *patiently* for the shop part of the site to be up and running. Anyone who knows me will know that I just don’t ‘do’ patient.

So…

You want to order a kit (Of course you do, thats a stupid question) so how do you go about it?

Well… when the magical website pixies kick the geeks into gear, ordering on the shop site will be via Paypal, Google Checkout or Personal Cheque – Paypal doesn’t require you to set up an account, you can do a one off transaction with them, whereas Google Checkout requires a Google account, but has a lot of advantages to this. Cheques are… cheques. As always, goods will be despatched when payment has cleared.

By using these checkout options, we never see your card details, we just receive the monies and notification of payment.

The other advantage is that whilst the shopping cart is waiting, I can manually work the Paypal and Google system until then.

So – if you want to order a kit, for the time being just contact us and we will send you an invoice to allow you to pay for your order and get your goodies! Don’t forget to check out the delivery costs on the website, and tell us exactly what fabby kits you want to order!
